About the Artist
Matalie has been drawing and painting throughout her life. The joy of experiencing her native Virginia has helped develop her eye for her designs. She enjoys natural scenes and often draws and paints on site. The love of Virginia is the topic of many of her expressions. “To be an artist is to believe in life” - Henry Moore
Matalie is drawn to color, contrast, and texture. She experiments with tools and mediums to express her inspiration. She often sketches and draws, using pencil, watercolor, acrylic or pastels. In her creative tool kit is a sketching journal to record what inspires her in daily life. She uses her sketches to work in her studio to create larger paintings. She also joins group artists critiques to improve her artistic skills. She considers these gatherings her jamming sessions!
“Whether you succeed or not is irrelevant, there is no such thing.
Making your unknown known is the important thing–
keeping the unknown always beyond you.” - Georgia O’Keeffe
